The Projective Pedal of an Eq\"uiaffine Immersion

Given a codimension 11 immersion ff together with an eq\"uiaffine tranversal vector field ξ\xi, its projective pedal is a codimension 22 immersion obtained as the centroaffine dual of the lifting of the pair (f,ξ)(f,\xi). In this paper we discuss the properties of the projective pedal, the most significant being that its asymptotic lines correspond to the curvature lines of the original immersion. As a consequence, we prove that Loewner's conjecture for asymptotic lines at inflection points of surfaces in 44-space is equivalent to Loewner's conjecture for curvature lines at umbilical points of surfaces in 33-space with an eq\"uiaffine transversal vector field.Comment: 11 pages. Quantum quenches in disordered systems: Approach to thermal equilibrium without a typical relaxation time

We study spectral properties and the dynamics after a quench of one-dimensional spinless fermions with short-range interactions and long-range random hopping. We show that a sufficiently fast decay of the hopping term promotes localization effects at finite temperature, which prevents thermalization even if the classical motion is chaotic. For slower decays, we find that thermalization does occur. However, within this model, the latter regime falls in an unexpected universality class, namely, observables exhibit a power-law (as opposed to an exponential) approach to their thermal expectation values.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure

    Prethermalization Production of Dark Matter

At the end of inflation, the inflaton field decays into an initially nonthermal population of relativistic particles which eventually thermalize. We consider the production of dark matter from this relativistic plasma, focusing on the prethermal phase. We find that for a production cross section σ(E)En\sigma(E)\sim E^n with n>2n> 2, the present dark matter abundance is produced during the prethermal phase of its progenitors. For n2n\le 2, entropy production during reheating makes the nonthermal contribution to the present dark matter abundance subdominant compared to that produced thermally. As specific examples, we verify that the nonthermal contribution is irrelevant for gravitino production in low scale supersymmetric models (n=0n=0) and is dominant for gravitino production in high scale supersymmetry models (n=6n=6).Comment: 12 pages, 4 figure

Effects of gabergic phenols on the dynamic and structure of lipid bilayers: A molecular dynamic simulation approach

γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the vertebrate and invertebrate nervous system. GABAA receptors are activated by GABA and their agonists, and modulated by a wide variety of recognized drugs, including barbiturates, anesthetics, and benzodiazepines. The phenols propofol, thymol, chlorothymol, carvacrol and eugenol act as positive allosteric modulators on GABAA-R receptor. These GABAergic phenols interact with the lipid membrane, therefore, their anesthetic activity could be the combined result of their specific activity (with receptor proteins) as well as nonspecific interactions (with surrounding lipid molecules) modulating the supramolecular organization of the receptor environment. Therefore, we aimed to contribute to a description of the molecular events that occur at the membrane level as part of the mechanism of general anesthesia, using a molecular dynamic simulation approach. Equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations indicate that the presence of GABAergic phenols in a DPPC bilayer orders lipid acyl chains for carbons near the interface and their effect is not significant at the bilayer center. Phenols interacts with the polar interface of phospholipid bilayer, particularly forming hydrogen bonds with the glycerol and phosphate group. Also, potential of mean force calculations using umbrella sampling show that propofol partition is mainly enthalpic driven at the polar region and entropic driven at the hydrocarbon chains. Finally, potential of mean force indicates that propofol partition into a gel DPPC phase is not favorable. Our in silico results were positively contrasted with previous experimental data.Fil: Miguel, Virginia.

    Towards Syntactic Iberian Polarity Classification

Lexicon-based methods using syntactic rules for polarity classification rely on parsers that are dependent on the language and on treebank guidelines. Thus, rules are also dependent and require adaptation, especially in multilingual scenarios. We tackle this challenge in the context of the Iberian Peninsula, releasing the first symbolic syntax-based Iberian system with rules shared across five official languages: Basque, Catalan, Galician, Portuguese and Spanish. The model is made available.Comment: 7 pages, 5 tables. Contribution to the 8th Workshop on Computational Approaches to Subjectivity, Sentiment and Social Media Analysis (WASSA-2017) at EMNLP 201
